Markets and Monopolies
Richard W. Rahn, January 9, 2004
Read this commentary by my old friend Richard Rahn, former chief economist of the US Chamber of Commerce. In "Markets and monopolies" originally in the January 12, 2004 Washington Times, Richard argues that it is time for the lawyers at the FCC and the Justice Department to admit that the regulatory myth of the telecom monopolist has no place in today's fiercely competitive telecom markets. While creating lifetime employment for bureaucrats, their regulatory meddling destroys investment incentives and diminishes the quality and choice available to consumers. The paper is available on the Discovery Institute website.
